Cash flow stabilization, cost-effective farming, and entrepreneurship in rural areas. The Cross Visit in Latvia takes a look at four innovation cases beginning today and ending on June 3.
Team Work for Farm Advice
This innovation case has been all about giving a helping hand to farmers who were struggling with bank payments and farm operating costs. The goal of the programme was to develop long-term production plans based on the actual situation in agriculture, farm potential and financial possibilities.
Herbivorous Project
The goal of this project is to promote best practice knowledge transfer in the livestock sector as well as to promote a cost-effective method of farming while aiming at improving both quality and volume of output, competitiveness of livestock farming and at the same time taking animal welfare, environmental protection and sustainability into consideration.
Promotion of Youth Entrepreneurship in Rural Areas
Rural areas need business opportunities for young people. This innovation case aims at activating and encouraging the participation of young people from the countryside in rural business and social life. Young people between the ages 18-30 are for example trained in how to develop a business idea and plan and in developing a project.
Development of Economical Activities (Support for Entrepreneurs) in Rural Areas
Through a business incubator type approach, this project helps new farmers and those willing to do business in rural areas through the beginning of their entrepreneurship. Each year approximately 250 small farmers participate in the program from all over Latvia. They are helped during a 3-year period.
